Red Bull area company with whom I have work for many years, on many different jobs in many different locations around the world. This latest installment saw me at Silverstone Racetrack (in the UK) surrounded by teams from all over the globe competing to be the Racing Can World Champions!
The premis is simple, teams are given a basic build-it-yourself radio controlled car kit (which consists of a chasis and wheels – and the radio set-up), then the have to design and build the rest of the car out of Red Bul cans! They then get marked for the aesthetics of their design, the skill of their construction and of course they race!
I took a series of portraits of the teams, there were plenty of smile and fun shots, but what I wanted was a series of serious ‘game-faces’ to run against the frivolity of the competition. It’s not exactly faking it (in Spain’s case, their expressions remained the same) but it did dictate the narrative slightly – but who cares?
